Keeping Our Hot Messes Safe: What You Can Expect As We Reopen

We want you to know how we're preparing to welcome you back to the studio after the pandemic. Read on to learn more about the safety-focused changes you'll notice when you return.


How are you?

If you’re anything like us, you can’t wait to get back to the salon to see your favorite Hot Messes.

And though we’re beyond excited to see you all, we also wanted you to be ready for how we’re adapting to the impact of the current pandemic.


We always want the salon to be the place you go to so you can relax, unwind and feel stunning and part of that process now includes focusing on making sure you stay safe when you visit us.


So today we’re sharing a few of the things we’re doing to keep our entire Hot Mess Tribe safe.



Going Above and Beyond

We will be following the Centers For Disease Control (CDC) and local health department guidelines. The Tribe will be observing these social distancing practices and sanitation guidelines in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

At Hot Mess, we are always committed to providing our guests with high standards and exceptional experiences.


We believe the safest way to manage the salon environment is to treat everyone, including ourselves as if they could be infected with Covid-19. This will require our staff to maintain six (6) feet of distance between ourselves and you, the client, as much as possible in our salon setting.


We will also be requiring this same procedure for client-to-client contact in order to limit the exposure to all individuals.


Keeping It Clean and Breathe Easier

From Tools To Towels: All tools, stations, and equipment have been sanitized and disinfected. A UV Light Sanitation Room established to ensure consistent, thorough, research-backed cleanings. In order to ensure that everyone stays safe, we’ve stocked our studio with new towels, extra robes, new capes for cut and color, and as always, new capes will be used for each client.

We’ve also added plastic dividers for sinks, sneeze guards for the front desk and manicure tables, touchless garbage cans, and hampers along with soap dispensers for a hands-free experience. We’re excited to break in all of this new gear with you!


Air: A Reme Halo air scrubber and purification module has been installed into our HVAC system. It cleans and purifies the air, addresses viruses, allergens like pollen and mold, bacteria, dander, and odors. It made a difference in the air quality almost immediately.


Staff: The staff has their temperature checked at the start of their shift. They will follow proper handwashing protocols and we will also do a deep clean and sanitization of everything before and after each shift. The Hot Mess staff has acquired updated certifications on sanitation protocols from Barbacide ™ a trusted name in the beauty industry.


Some of the new practices will be temporary, and many will continue to be implemented even after we conquer this virus.



Appointment Booking and Cancelation

We understand you are eager to schedule your appointment, and we are working as quickly as we can to make that happen. I encourage you to fill out a “Book Now” form on the home page of our website if you have not already done so.

The Hot Mess Studio cancellation policy:

At this time we are requiring a deposit to book all appointments. We understand that sometimes extraordinary circumstances are unavoidable and you may need to change your schedule.


24 Hours Notice: We kindly ask that you give us 24 hours notice if you need to cancel your appointment, your deposit will be applied to the new appointment.


If 24 hours notice is not given, your deposit will not be refunded.


Cancellations and No Shows: Cancellations and “no shows” leave gaps in our schedules that cannot be filled without timely notice. This notification courtesy enables us to schedule another client and, in turn, maintains a higher availability of services for you as well as others.


Late Arrivals: Due to the scheduled appointments of all of our clients, if you are more than 10 minutes late we will need to re-schedule your appointment and your deposit will be forfeited. We hope you understand the need for these policies.

New Protocols

The following will outline our new protocols as well as inform you of what to expect upon returning to the salon.

Text Upon Arrival: Please let us know you have arrived by calling or texting us. We will let you know your artist is ready, and at that time you may come to the front door of the salon.

Get Cleaned Up: Upon arrival at the salon, you will meet one of the Hot Mess tribe at our welcome station for sanitation & communication.

Taking Your Temperature: Your temperature will be taken and must be under 100 degrees F.


Then, we will ask you to answer the following questions:

*Have you recently had a cough or sore throat? *Have you recently had a fever? *Do you have shortness of breath? *Do you have a loss of taste or smell? *Have you been in contact with anyone exhibiting these symptoms in the last 14 days? *Have you traveled out of the state or country in the last 14 days?


If you have answered yes to any of these questions, have a fever or are experiencing symptoms, we will be happy to reschedule you.

We cannot risk compromising the health of our clients and staff.


General Appointment Guidelines

Personal Items: Please limit the personal items you bring into the salon. We recommend only your keys, the form of payment you would like to use, and your phone. If you need to bring a purse or bag we will give you a plastic bag to keep it in for the duration of your visit.

Masks: Masks will be mandatory and provided if necessary. You may NOT remove your mask during your visit at any time while inside the salon. - It is not mandatory to wear gloves as long as you are following hand sanitizing procedures


Guests: Only customers receiving a service will be allowed in the salon. Please do not bring guests or children.

Shampoo: During your shampoo, we prefer talking be refrained from or kept to a minimum, this is a great way to close your eyes and truly relax. Let us take you away… for a few minutes.


Purchasing Products: If you would like to purchase any products, your stylist will get it for you from our product shelf, and deliver it to the front desk for purchase. Someone at the front desk can help you as well.


Complying With Protocols: If at any time during our contact with you, we feel you are not complying with the rules stated above, show signs of illness, or are in any way combative, we reserve the right to refuse service and will ask you to leave the salon immediately. This is dramatic but we need to be honest and cover all bases.


Physical Contact: Lastly, we ask that no handshakes, hugs, or any unnecessary touching take place at this time… but a cute little hello dance is always welcome.


Please let us know if there is anything that makes you uncomfortable and we will try to accommodate you as much as we possibly can.


Look Hot Even If You Feel Like a Mess

There will be some changes when we reopen, but you’ll find the same amazing artists and the same attention to detail and supportive service you love.


These protocols will continue to be refined and adjusted as needed and we will keep you informed every step of the way. (The extras will come back soon, it’s all temporary, pinky promise. )

These are uncharted waters for all of us, but we are confident that together we can be safe and pretty!
